Smoky Tropic – Mezcal Based Cocktail

As a lover of tropical flavors, with a low tolerance for sweet drinks, and with a strong preference toward Mezcal and Tequila this cocktail is my go to warm weather drink.

If you are looking for a well balanced, lightly smoked drink with vibrant and tropical flavors this is for you!

Ingredients

  • 2oz Mezcal
  • 1oz Amaro Montenegro
  • 2oz Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2oz Yuzu Juice
  • Dash of Agave Syrup
  • Cinnamon
  • Ice

This cocktail was tested with Madre Mezcal and Del Maguey Vida Mezcal. They are both great, Vida, in my experience is easier to find. At least where I am located in the SouthEast you can easily find Vida on the shelf of any ABC Store. Madre Mezcal, however I do have to order online from their site – but it’s worth it! If you place an order with Madre Mezcal grab a case of their Desert Water, it’s a great grab and go drink for cookouts, pickle ball, or lounging by the pool. (Not sponsored, I’m just “fangirling”).

Making the Smoky Tropic

Combine Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker add your Mezcal, Amaro Montenegro, Pineapple Juice (fresh or canned), Yuzu Juice, and Agave Syrup to taste.

Add Ice: Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.

Shake: Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds, ensuring the drink is well combined and chilled.

Strain: Strain the drink into a rocks glass with an ice sphere or large cube.

Garnish: Garnish with a lightly dust the top of the cocktail with cinnamon powder.

Optional: Torch the end of a cinnamon stick to lay across the top of the glass to add additional fragrance and flare.

Serve: Serve immediately!

This is a great evening cocktail served with appetizers, laughs, and late night chats.

Suggested pairings: Grilled Shrimp Skewers, Ceviche, Spicy Guacamole and Chips, Charcuterie with Manchego and Aged Gouda, Pineapple and Jalapeño Salsa, or Grilled Tofu Skewers.
